Antique French Romantic Courtship Scene
Antique French Romantic Courtship Scene
Artwork
Antique French oil on panel depicting a courtship scene within a wooded landscape. The figures are dressed in idealized 18th-century costume, reflecting the 19th-century revival of Rococo themes associated with the work of Watteau, Lancret and Fragonard.
The brightly dressed figures are set against a dark landscape, with a towering tree and receding path creating depth around the central scene.
